The design for Beauty and the Beast is conceived as a living sketch—a layered environment where process becomes form. Gauze, soft goods, and translucent fabrics create a shifting architecture that conceals and reveals, echoing the story’s themes of perception and transformation. The set behaves like a skin, changing through shadow, projection, stitch, and print.
Referencing multiplane animation and early concept art, the design pays tribute to the animators and artists behind the original film. By exposing its own construction—its seams, frames, and textures—it invites the audience to look deeper. Like Belle, we’re asked to see beyond surfaces and find beauty in what is still becoming
